Who are you?
A little bit of Beyond Jim identity crisis for you on this fine day
Ursula Le Guin may have said “monogamy will always be a cornerstone of civilization”, (in the stories I’ve read at least) but she also said “you can love whoever you love and there’s more than one type of love that you can share with those around you and they shouldn’t be dismissed”
Genly and Estravan loved each other as friends and as two people who knew and learned to love and understand each other (And if you’re disappointed about the tent I feel you, but that’s not the point of their relationship)
Shevek loved Bedap, even if he couldn’t share everything with him he loved him as his friend and that was not lesser than his love for Takver. His love for both Takver and for his society coexisted and neither was all consuming, because those are also types of love hat can coexist. (and shevek and takver’s relationship is so interesting in the way their non-possessive nature relates back to how easily they come together and follow and love one another)
Ged loves his wife and his daughter and his old master and his friend the king, and he weeps for and with them all and no one is less than the others.
Sometimes I try to explain this to other people but Le Guin’s books (the ones I’ve read) are about power and politics and human nature, yes, but they’re also about love. And that’s…that’s important
Ok but if we’re being honest here, Kayne is literally all of us. John and Arthur are his blorbos. You know what we do with our blorbos. That’s right. We literally put them in the most angsty, angst angst situations. No one here can lie. Kanye is literally the embodiment of fans everywhere. I’ve cracked the code, guys. You’re welcome.
character who is sun-coded but not in the traditional ray-of-sunshine way. character who is sun-coded in the sense that they burn hot and bright and powerful, that they’re a raging fury of fire and passion, and that maybe, just maybe, they are destroying themselves as they do so.
